Some Recent Films on Poets and Their Lives

January 3, 2017

Two recent films have focused on the lives of poets. "Patterson" is playing in theaters now. Wikipedia writes about "Patterson": "Paterson is a 2016 drama film written and directed by Jim Jarmusch. The film stars Adam Driver and Golshifteh Farahani as a Paterson, New Jersey couple, one of which is a bus driver and a poet.It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.[3][4] At Cannes the film won the Palm Dog Award.[5] The film was released in Germany on November 17, 2016, by K5 International. It was then released in France on December 21, 2016, by Le Pacte, and released in the United States on December 28, 2016, by Amazon Studios and Bleecker Street."

The other film is "Neruda." Again Wikipedia writes: Neruda is a 2016 internationally co-produced biographical drama film directed by Pablo Larraín. It was screened in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.[3][4] It was selected as the Chilean entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards but it was not nominated.[5][6]The film was released in Chile on 11 August 2016, by 20th Century Fox. It was released in the United States on 16 December 2016, by The Orchard. It will then be released in France on 4 January 2017, by Wild Bunch.

One of my old favorites however remains "Reaching for the Moon" about life of Elizabeth Bishop. Didn't get such good film reviews but there is something memorable about it.
